Exceptionally beautiful and very comfortable set of 2 Model 854 armchairs by Wilhelm Knoll for Cassina, upholstered in gold-colored corduroy fabric with a teak wood frame, Italy, 1950s.
Designed by Wilhelm Knoll and produced in Italy by Cassina. The design dates from the 1950s and reflects the high-quality upholstery tradition of the German Knoll workshops.
During the 1940s and 1950s, Cassina began collaborating with external designers and international furniture concepts, producing modern designs in Italy and licensing selected models from designers and manufacturers across Europe. Within this context, pieces from the German Wilhelm Knoll design tradition were also produced.
The chair features an organically shaped wooden frame with wide armrests and loose seat and back cushions. Typical of Knoll designs from this period is the comfortable upholstery construction using elastic webbing support, providing both durability and excellent seating comfort.
With its clean lines and warm wooden frame, the chair is a beautiful example of Mid-Century Modern design, combining German design heritage with Italian craftsmanship.
A stylish lounge or reading chair and a distinctive vintage design piece—equally striking as a single statement piece or as a pair.
